The Steel Wheels

About

For nearly two decades, The Steel Wheels have been writing, recording, and touring their ever-evolving brand of American roots music. Based in Virginia, the band blends folk-rock, bluegrass, and Americana traditions with modern textures—creating songs that honor life’s trials, triumphs, and everything in between.

Beyond the stage, The Steel Wheels are also the founders and hosts of the beloved Red Wing Roots Music Festival, a cornerstone of the Shenandoah Valley music community and a reflection of the band’s deep commitment to connection and craft.

Their album Sideways (released February 9, 2024 via Big Ring Records) is a moving meditation on resilience and survival. Written largely by lead singer and primary songwriter Trent Wagler, the record grapples with loss and the uncertainty of facing what we can’t control—delivered through rich harmonies, driving rhythms, and soulful storytelling.

As Tahoe Onstage notes, “The Steel Wheels are certainly not the first band to use bluegrass music as a springboard to dive into a rainbow of possibilities, but they are certainly among the best that do.”

In the Room

When The Steel Wheels bring their music to Tigre Island Room, it’s an invitation into something honest and deeply human. Their harmonies fill the space, their rhythms carry the room, and their songs land with warmth and intention. It’s an unforgettable night of Americana roots and folk-rock—music meant to be felt as much as it’s heard, shared together in close company.
